Insurance and Risk Assessment - Rt 9 Hadley Fire Disaster Victims learn from Hassan and Brahim Oulbeid

None of the victims of the horrendous fire that destroyed the mall in Hadley last Sunday will ever be the same again, and their customers can only hope that most will recover sufficiently to continue.

Even those with insurance will find that no amount of money could compensate them for even the memory of their horrible loss.

One would hardly guess from the modest "front" of the Casablanca Halal Market they they take in almost a million dollars in revenue by importing items from Morocco that Muslims need.  Oubleid and Keffas have maximized their revenue by also providing taxi and delivery services for their products to customers as far away as Boston or NY.

Not many of the victims are as fortunate as Hassan Oubleid and can boast of having an expert in Loss Prevention and "accurate audits of ... merchandise." in the family.

Known as the "Trump" of the Halal business, Casablanca Halal Market owner Hassan Oulbeid turned pennies and dimes from taxi tips into a million dollar empire in just 3 years.

Hassan's Casablanca Halal Market, created just 3 years ago from pennies, dimes and other tips from his taxi business (and while paying off a quarter-million dollar mortgage!) grew quickly from $170,000 in sales the first year to almost a million dollars just 3 years later.

"That's a lot of goat meat!" - Corporate Sales exceeded any rational person's expectations (revenue in thousands)

Brahim Oulbeid, Hassan's partner in the lucrative taxi business in Easthampton, has just such valuable skills and hopefully Hassan has taken his advise and properly insured all of the valuable assets of his corporation, whose sales were approaching a million dollars.

Brahim Oulbeid, Hampshire mosque founding member and director.

As an auditor and Security Officer with US Security Associates in Stamford, CT for almost 10 years Brahim knows the importance of properly documenting the existence and value of assets and insuring against their loss, as well as the methods used by unscrupulous businessmen to falsely document or value their assets.
Insurance companies usually require claimants to establish the value of losses with photographs and receipts. Fraud investigators know that purchases from overseas can often be artificially inflated to launder money or transfer it internationally.
Casablanca Halal Market stocked and sold a wide assortment of flammable tobacco products, charcoal and pipes. Many of the pipes were very valuable and were imported from Muslim countries where they could be properly blessed and inscribed with the holy name of Allah. Hopefully the purchase receipts for this priceless merchandise were not destroyed in the fire.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but if either the ignition or the rapid proliferation of fire through the structure can be traced to any negligent or illegal activities by any of the occupants of the structure, victims may have recourse to legal action against the offender.

What is Strict Liability?

Strict Liability would hold a person responsible for ALL damages and losses regardless of culpability if it is determined that they improperly or illegally stored or stockpiled materials that are inherently dangerous, like fireworks, gasoline, or other flammables or accelerants.   In other words, even if they were not responsible for the onset of the catastrophe, they would still be held accountable for ALL damages.

Investigators will be trying to determine the amount of Quick Lighting Rapid Burning Charcoals that Casablanca Halal Market had on their shelves or stored in the back where the fire appears to have begun.   Hopefully they will also be checking the taxi garages on Arlington Street in Easthampton to ensure that any flammable materials or gasoline storage tanks are properly licensed and inspected.

Hassan, Brahim, and Lahcen Oulbeid started their lucrative taxi business just 3 years ago at this Easthampton garage.
